Creative/Wellbeing Week 2024!
We celebrated Creative Week this week in Scoil Maelruain and the spirit of creativity in the form of art, music and dance was alive and well in the school. Throughout the week, morning activities for different year groups were held before school, an art competition was organised and each class had the opportunity to attend a workshop with a visiting artist.
The visiting artists were:
Paula Mongey (Wellbeing/Drama)
Mirjam Keune (Visual Arts)
Alan McGrath (Creative Dance)
This week allowed us to celebrate creativity within our school community and promote well-being among both students and staff. The week concluded with a Colours Day today, where students were invited to wear bright colours in order to help fund the visiting artists who contributed their time and talent.
For the art competition, the theme of Giving encouraged children to create a piece of art to present as a thank-you gift to someone special. Students used various media, including drawing, painting, collage, clay, construction, and weaving. They were invited to tailor their creations to the person receiving the gift or to explore abstract designs, with the primary focus on creating something to give to someone else.
It was great to see the morning activities so enthusiastically attended. On Monday, 4th and 6th classes enjoyed Lego and free art activities, while all classes were invited to a yoga session in the Halla. Tuesday saw 3rd and 5th classes participating in Lego, free art and dancing, while Wednesday brought music to the yard for all. Badminton and table tennis were available on Thursday at the usual time.
There was a special surprise of ice cream for one class group each day as well! A big thanks to Ms Biesty, Ms Cobbe, Ms Dunning and all teachers who helped out this week.
